Impact on Urban Health

Impact on Urban Health

The places that we grow up, live, and work impact how healthy we are. Urban areas, like inner-city London, have some of the most extreme health outcomes. At Impact on Urban Health, we believe that we can remove obstacles to good health, by making urban areas healthier places for everyone to live. We address these health inequalities by focusing on a few complex health issues that disproportionately impact people living in cities – childhood obesity, multiple long-term conditions, the health effects of air pollution, and adolescent mental health. Our programmes are long-term and formed of partnerships at local, borough, national and international scales. Using our funding and expertise, we back home-grown initiatives, evidence-based approaches from around the world, and exciting, brand-new ideas.

Oddbox

Oddbox (smaller)

Oddbox is a social enterprise founded in 2016 focused on tackling food waste and driving behaviour change with innovative solutions. We have grown over 400% YoY now delivering to over 10,000 homes and businesses with a revenue run-rate of £3mn.

We have saved over 1,000 tonnes of produce from going to waste. Our vision is to use data and technology to empower our customers to track their impact and change their behaviour. The way Fitbit helps people walk more, we want to help people waste less. South Kilburn Trust

South Kilburn Trust

South Kilburn is an area in the south of Brent, bordering Camden and Westminster. The area suffers from high levels of deprivation, including worklessness, poverty, health concerns, low household incomes and issues of social integration. Despite this, South Kilburn has a history of creativity and strong, supportive communities.

The South Kilburn Trust was established in 2009 as a legacy from the New Deal for Communities (NDC) programme, aimed at supporting local people to tackle these issues. In 2018 we took on the management of a building, The Granville, in the heart of South Kilburn. Over 140 years old, The Granville was renovated to incorporate affordable workspace as well as space for community activities and events. We manage these services, as well as business support, community engagement and youth provision, to support local people and make a positive difference to their lives.
